Die Berliner Künstlerin Tina Schwichtenberg arbeitet immer ortsspezifisch und kontext-bezogen; für DIVINE HEROES streute sie in ihrer bekannten „Mehl-Art“ einen fragilen Text-Teppich, der sich der Unregelmäßigkeit des rohen Bodens der Kellerräume des ehemaligen Grazer Jesuitenkollegiums anschmiegt. Die mit Akribie mühsam entstandene Mehl-Message konterkariert eine oft flüchtig und spontan hingeworfene Mail-Botschaft. In den Ratschlägen des Philosophen Epiktet tritt ein Sub-Kontext temporär ans Licht der Oberfläche: was im antiken Olympia ganz selbstverständlich verbunden war – Sportheld und Kulthandlung – transformiert sich im profanen Ritual des Sportkultes unserer Zeit in die säkularisierte Weiheliturgie des unter übermenschlichen Entbehrungen und Anstrengungen erkämpften Sieges.

The works of the Berlin artist Tina Schwichtenberg are always location-specific and context-related. For DIVINE HEROES, she used her famous “Mehl-Art” (flour art) technique to spread a fragile text carpet, which adapts to the irregularities of the rough floor in the basement of the former Graz Jesuit College. The meticulously laid out flour message provides a counterpoint to often hasty and spontaneous mail messages. A sub-context is temporarily exposed to the light of day in the teachings of the philosopher Epictetus. What was inextricably linked in ancient Olympia - athletic hero and ritual act - is transformed into the secularised consecration liturgy of victory won through superhuman austerity and exertion in the profane ritual of today’s sport cult.
